The Gateway to storytelling on Screen
This workshop marks the first step in our comprehensive writing program. Through a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on practical sessions, participants will embark on a journey to master the art of screenwriting, equipping them to unleash their inner storytellers and prepare their creations for the professional realm. Our Introduction to Screenwriting course is designed as an express route for participants to immerse themselves in the world of writing. It provides a solid foundation in key areas such as story structure, character development, and world-building. Participants will gain the skills to convey stories visually and craft multi-dimensional characters facing conflicts, each with their unique voice. They will learn to pose and resolve dramatic questions while seamlessly connecting plot points from the inciting incident to the resolution. Throughout the course, participants will deeply analyze feature narratives and scripts through ten intensive sessions, enabling them to gain valuable insights into the art of storytelling on screen. Learning Goals
By the end of this workshop, participants will be equipped to:
- Grasp the fundamental screenwriting skills, from conceptualizing cinematic ideas to presenting them effectively through pitching.
- Master the art of visual storytelling, including international script formatting and techniques that ensure clear communication to industry professionals.
- Understand the conventions of storytelling by delving into screenplays, exploring various genres, and structures of cinematic classics.
- Cultivate critical analysis skills, becoming experts in dissecting how films function at their core.
- Acquire the essential tools required to craft and develop compelling stories, create believable characters, generate engaging conflicts, and construct immersive story worlds.

About the instructor: Stephanie Khoury
After completing a research masters in cinema in Beirut, Stephanie specialized in screenwriting in New York. She honed her craft since then and is now a story consultant for a publishing house and private entities. Khoury also works as an independent producer on narratives and documentaries and teaches at the Antonine University, the Beirut Film Institute and other local NGOs.
