48H FILM PROJECT

OBJECTIVE

Beirut Film Institute is the official organizer of the Beirut 48 Hour Film Project-the oldest and biggest timed filmmaking competition in the world. Established by Mark Ruppert in Washington, DC back in 2001, it has grown to over 200 cities around the world. The idea is that teams of local filmmakers have 48 hours to collaborate to make a short 4 to 7 minute film. They will write, shoot, and edit it - All in one weekend. For the 10th year running, on a given weekend, filmmakers will get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in their films - which they have only 48 hours time to create.

The winning team will go up against other participating cities in an annual event named “Filmapalooza” in Seattle - Washington during March 2025 to crown the best 48-hour film in the world, and get the opportunity to run for the Best OF and screen at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2014 - team “M23” and in 2018 - team Deer B-lack from Beirut made it to Cannes. During last edition 2022, Roarpark team made it to Cannes and won the second prize for their film " Hamra. No, Badaro". And this year team "RAGA" is going to Cannes and won the first prize for their film "I am a Painting".

The Kickoff Event of this edition will be on the 26th of July 2024 in Beirut Film Institute .
